An abandoned rural barn in the middle of nowhere catches the eye of recently retired couple Helen and Richard. Silver Trinket Pots 

The brickslips in this fireplace are not only pleasing on the eye, but they are also a little nod to this building’s past. They are made from the bricks that were taken out of the back of the barn to allow for the extension. Recycling and repurposing these bricks is an affordable way to make a bespoke feature whilst also reusing something that would have potentially ended up in landfill.

This custom made kitchen in Shell and Pantry Blue was designed and installed by Kensworth kitchens.

Bespoke Kitchen 

Having been situated here for well over a century, Richard and Helen were hoping this unloved and abandoned barn might unveil some treasures when they started to dig. They were lucky enough to unearth some interesting artifacts, including some old pottery jugs, and coins dating back from 1907 and 1917. The coins along with the pottery have been meticulously cleaned and can be found on display dotted around their wonderfully restored barn to pay homage to its past.

Brighten Up Your Day

All the floor tiles &amp; bathroom fittings are available to purchase at Marabese. The floor tiles are Chalon stone-effect porcelain tiles in cream.

Tiles and Fittings 

A key feature that Richard and Helen were keen to reinstate into the barn was the original roof trusses. They were replaced by steels so although they no longer serve a structural purpose, reinstating the wooden beams onto the vaulted ceiling creates an impact from the moment you walk into this warm and inviting home. The beams run throughout the first floor and give a rustic feel deserving of this restored barn.

Rustic Doors

Both the extension and the window openings were designed to minimise the impact on the original appearance of the barn. The smaller windows, that are enlarged versions of the original arrow slit openings, have ensured there is little disturbance to the original brickwork of the barn.  Mimicking this stye on the subservient extension provides an appearance that not only retains its rural character but also complements both the existing barn and its wider countryside setting. The clever design of the internal window recesses has allowed plenty of light to flood this beautifully renovated barn.
