Farmer turned civil servant Ben is turning his back on city life and heading back into the countryside to take on an ambitious renovation. The 180 year-old-barn that has caught his eye has sat empty for decades. With a rotting roof and collapsing walls, this is going to be a huge undertaking. Ben’s personality exudes around every corner of his home. Everyone&#39;s buzzing to get their hands on these bee handles!

Bee Handles

This Häcker kitchen retails at an eye-watering £52,000. Through some savvy sourcing, Ben was able to snap it up through an ex-kitchen display retailer for just £12,000. Ben’s achieved a high-end look without blowing the budget.

High End Kitchen

With a traditional red telephone box in his garden, Ben couldn’t resist adding another nod to the big city with his personalised London Underground wall mountable sign that he found on Ebay.

Redcastle Barn 

Mary Berry, Fanny Craddock, and Nigella Lawson.Having planned to have this artwork commissioned since before the build started, Ben couldn’t be happier with this Andy Warhol style artwork, designed by Zed Gregory. His plan to inject a feeling of colour to contrast with his monochrome kitchen, certainly does just that!

The Three Graces

This lamp from Mybotanica is its own mini-ecosysem! The closed system creates a humid climate that keeps the plants alive.

Lighten Up

Little did Ben know at the time, but he’d bought a site of special scientific interest, which meant he had to have a consultation to check there was no rare species. The consultants found signs that bats inhabited parts of the barn, in turn, Ben had to create a space that the bats could relocate to, and what better place than an old reclaimed railway carriage! It fits perfectly in the corner of Ben’s garden.

The Bat Palace

With family being a big part of Ben’s life, he&#39;s sentimental in his ways. Ben wanted to add something into the structure of his new home that would reflect his family’s farming roots, and what could be more apt than instating two large contrasting stones from his dad’s hillside farm to frame the entrance of his grand doorway. It’s a small personal touch that makes this once derelict building unique for Ben; creating a home away from home.

The Family Stones

When Ben found a horseshoe built into into this original wall of the barn at the start of his restoration project, he hoped they would bring him luck for the adventure to come. Ben couldn’t bring himself to throw them away, so instead he has cleverly reinstated them into his garden wall outside.
